English
Based on a Junior year requirement, I wrote my Common App essay along with my high school resume. I based my essay on the prompt #6, which goes along the lines of "What is something that takes up all of your time and really interests you." With that in mind, my entire essay was about reading and how/why it had an impact in my life. Throughout the entirety of the piece, I explained the way that some characters are able to portray feeling that I might not have been able to put into words. in more than ways, this common app essay was a way to portray of what reading is to me and how it redefined the meaning of home.
Civics
For my Civics, I wrote a medical chart that clearly explains the wrongs of the state of the American Healthcare system. For the research aspect, I looked into how the Medicaid poorly insures patients acceptable health and how it may or may not have developed after the Civil War. In certain areas of the chart, I was able to correlate the sections ideas to the information I was putting in it. For example, in the symptoms section of the piece, I wrote down all the general wrongs that in the Medicaid program. I also included annotations in the margin of the writing to be able to further showcase the contextualization that was in my chart study. It was another way to go more into detail on the more vague sections of my writing so that way no areas of the debriefing went without any backup information.
Art
To go along with the theme of the Healthcare System, in art, I attempted to create a faux stained glass piece. The context being the idea was to showcase the influence art has in patient recovery, whether it be images itself and/or color theory. It was more of a psychological standpoint but it also showed a variant of what the healthcare pertains too. Throughout the making of this piece, I hit many obstacles, but as time moved on, I managed to create something that resembles stained glass. I pieced together plexiglass glass to make it look like a dove and lotus flowers because those are representations of peace and serenity. Each element of the art product has many representations of context with the image itself or the color meaning.
