English
For english, I was motivated to reread the last book of "The Summer I Turned Pretty" Series to navigate my way through this project. As I reread the book, I hand selected some quotes that I felt fully encapsulates the meaning of Conrad Fishers character. Seeing as my project topic is all about "Why Conrad is better?" and "How we misunderstand his character due to not understanding the true hardships of being an older sibling." With the quotes that I felt fit the narrative well, I annotated each by filing them into a few categories. The categories entailed of who the speaker was, how this quote represents the character and some background info if needed, as well as the perspective we get as a reader. I did about 8 annotation, with some pulling from the other 2 books to showcase some character development. Overall the purpose of this area of the project was to represent how the book laid out a certain perspectives based on the verbiage used in the book, the ideas brought to the readers attention and the POV we get in the book itself.
Self in the Modern World
For this portion of the project, we are supposed to see ourselves in the typical day to day life and apply it to our projects. I am an oldest sibling so I deeply connected and understood most of what Conrad was going through and especially how he handled it. I used my research of "how family dynamics and birth order can effect ones personality," and put that towards my therapist evaluation I made of Conrad. It is a big thing in the show and book that Conrad has severe anxiety, so I figured it would be a good correlation to that if I made a therapist evaluation. I targeted the parts of the show where we get a visual representation of times Conrad needed a therapist, like presented with a panic attack. All in all, I made a therapist evaluation that tied together element of family dynamics, pseudosciences of birth order, and personal traits from my own life, to be able to showcase the true misunderstandings we miss from Conrads cues because we don't realize what they are or what they mean.
Art
To go along with the theme of Conrad Fisher, in art, I created a short film to provide symbolism of Conrad personality, based on the research from english, in the place Conrad felt the most safe, the beach. As I was vacationing at the beach, I found way to connect little moments that occur in that area to tie to Conrads faults or unreadable quirks. For example, I put in a scene of footprints washing away to represent the idea of a new beginning starting and and old one ending, one that doesn't need to be seen if needed. And to be able to explain all of my reasoning and context, I created a seperate document that explains my thinking behind each scene. The context is developed through the film and the research conducted all about the process of making a short film and how to show symbolism without being too confusing.
