About Project ONE
English
For my English portion, I annotated 3 poems from a poet who suffered with autism as well as many other mental illnesses. The 3 poems I annotated were "If I Should Die," " I Dwell in Possibility," and "If I Can't Stop Ones Heart from Breaking," all written by poet Emily Dickinson. To go along with my interpretations, I have written background information about her and why her life event effected her poems while using the SOAPSTONE method. I incorporated the thinking skill contextualization by making sure to add as much background information about this author into the final product. I was able to add context about her home life and events that led up to her poems or people who may have influenced them. The contextualization was also added by the amount of information that was all about her life with autism and what signs may have appeared that she suffered with this illness.

Art
In my art portion of this project, I created a painting that represents the repetition involved with autistic symptoms. I researched 3 artists that suffered with autism and used Andy Warhol as my inspiration. He would constantly think of ways to repeat patterns on a canvas as a style of art. I divided the canvas ( around 11'' x 14'') into a 3 x 4 grid. On the 3 left squares going vertically, I used primary color and continuing horizontally, I painted on the complementary color going lighter. To fill in the squares I drew on a silhouette of the a face seeing both the side and front profile. I was able to include contextualization by adding information from all of these artists and how this illness may have affected their art. For some of their pieces, I noticed that there was a lot of repetition and reused techniques so I made sure to include the background information on how that correlates to the main idea of stigma in autism.

Social Studies
To incorporate social studies, I put together a poster board and displayed general information about Dorothea Dix, who was a mental health activist. In my poster, I included details about her early life, her impact on both recent times and the 1800's, her work, morals and her leadership in the Civil War. She had transformed the way we view mental health to a different level. Dorothea was a key impact to the better change on how mental illness is projected to society. I used the thinking skill, by making sure I was able to fit all of the key details about Dorothea Dix and how her awareness effected society perspectives. I got important information and was able to get context on why she wanted to help the mental health society. I used contextualization by overall, retrieving information that was key to figuring out the main purpose Dorothea had in the stigma for mental health patients.
